About San Angelo
San Angelo, Texas is the county seat of Tom Green
County and it is situated on the banks of the Concho
River, in West Central Texas. San Angelo's history
dates back from 1867, when Fort Concho was built,
after the ending of the American Civil War. San
Angelo was originally named San Angela, after the
wife of Bartholomew DeWitt. Unfortunately the
spelling was rejected by the postal authorities for
its "ungrammatical construction". So finally the
city was named San Angelo.
Nowadays Fort Concho National Historic Landmark is a
very popular tourist attraction.
